About Us
Hey, thanks so much for checking out my website. My name is Dave Kirby, and I'm from Toronto, Canada. I've been working as a professional guitarist for just over ten years now.
I've been playing guitar for most of my life, and I earned my BMus from Humber College in Toronto in 2012.
Since graduation, I have been working as a freelance guitarist for artists of all levels. I've played everything from bars and coffee shops to arenas and large scale festivals.
All throughout my career I have been teaching private in person lessons, but several years ago I began to notice that finding substitute teachers to take my students for me while I'm away on gigs is not only inefficient for me, but it inhibits the progress of my students.
I decided to develop an online teaching community where students can sign up for courses that I've written so they have access to lessons whenever they want to learn. No student should have to learn only when I have time.
I've also opened up a schedule for Skype lessons as an alternative to in person lessons, because I'm able to teach over Skype even if I'm travelling for a gig, which means no more subs for my students.
This website is a massive undertaking for me, but I see it as a huge opportunity for growth for myself and my students. String Theory Online Courses is just me, I do all the technical operations with respect to the website, I respond to every email directly, I teach every lesson, and I write every online course and free tutorial.
I need to take a moment here to thank Liam O'Sullivan for his work filming and editing my Music Theory and Blues Improvisation courses, I couldn't have done it without his help!
This website is my platform to exhibit and share my passion for playing the guitar with the widest audience that I can reach. Thank you for being a part of this process, and I honestly look forward to getting to know you, learning from your experiences with the guitar, and sharing what I've learned about the guitar with you.
Sincerely,
Dave Kirby
